AH76
The AH76 is a FET topology compressor inspired by the classic Urei 1176, specifically its famous F revision. Our version of this classic features transformers made to the same specifications as the originals, including an exact replica of the legendary UTC O-12.
This input transformer is a fundamentally important part of the 1176's famous coloring and saturation.
- The AH76 accurately reproduces this tone, also bringing versatility and modern elements. The AH76 features a bypass switch, making it easier and simpler to compare the compressed signal with the clean signal.
- High Pass filter in the sidechain, making the compressor act on frequencies above 150 Hz. 4 Ratio options, and Attack and Release controls that work like the original unit (faster times clockwise and slower times counter-clockwise).
- Fixed Threshold, with the amount of gain reduction defined by the amount of gain applied at the input (Input control).
- Mu-Metal shielding on the input transformer, preventing any type of noise or radio-frequency interference.
- High-quality components, polyester capacitors, matched transistors, and meticulous calibration, ensuring the consistency of the AH76.

HIGH-QUALITY CAPACITORS
We opted for Wima polyester and Nichicon electrolytic capacitors. The FET transistors, the core of the circuit, are individually selected to ensure consistency, performance, and sound quality in each unit.
TRANSFORMERS
The AH76 uses a faithful clone of the legendary UTC O-12 input transformer, an essential component for the coloration, saturation, and dynamic response characteristic of classic 1176s. The circuit also features an output transformer reproduced to original specifications and a carefully sized power transformer, ensuring stability, headroom, and low noise.
DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
All metalwork is developed by us. The steel chassis with electrostatic paint and the brushed and anodized aluminum front panel accurately reproduce the aesthetics of original 1970s equipment.
The UREI 1176 Revision F (or "Rev F," the seventh revision) is often considered a game-changer in compressor history, and what makes it special is primarily linked to its low-noise circuit.
Released around 1973, this version introduced a new transformer-balanced input circuit and a low-noise stage designed by Brad Plunkett, which significantly reduced the noise floor compared to previous revisions. This made the unit more suitable for delicate sources like vocals, where silence between notes is as important as the compressed sound.
Many engineers consider the Rev F cleaner and more transparent than earlier versions (such as the Rev A "Bluestripe" or the Rev E "Blackface"), which tend to have a more colorful and aggressive character. The Rev F retains the 1176's fast and musical FET signature but with a more refined demeanor, making it a versatile choice for various types of sources.
